Air Rotary Union for Packaging Machinery
Plan compressed-air transfer for rotating packaging stations without twisting hoses or mixing machine circuits.
Packaging machines often place pneumatic cylinders, grippers, or blow-off nozzles on a rotating carousel while the supply manifold remains fixed. A rotary union carries those services across the rotating interface. The correct configuration follows the machine circuit and mechanical layout; it does not follow the packaging-machine label alone.
Where the rotary union fits in a packaging machine
Typical locations include indexing tables, filling and capping carousels, rotary sealing stations, label-handling mechanisms, and product-transfer turrets. Separate passages can serve clamp and release, blow-off, or multiple independently controlled actuators.
Start with the function at each rotating station. A circuit that must hold pressure, switch independently, or stay isolated from another function needs its own defined passage. Electrical signals, wash fluid, or other services may require separate interfaces or a custom combined design.
Three decisions that determine the configuration
- Circuit plan Map every rotating function, its medium, direction of flow, and whether it must remain independent from the other passages.
- Operating profile Provide normal and maximum pressure, required flow, rotational speed, start-stop frequency, temperature, and the cleaning environment.
- Mechanical integration Check the available envelope, center-bore need, fixed and rotating sides, mounting features, port access, hose support, and service clearance.
A practical packaging-machine review sequence
- Mark the rotating circuits Label clamp, release, blow-off, and any other air functions on the pneumatic diagram.
- Check peak demand Size for the functions that operate together, including acceptable pressure drop at the farthest actuator.
- Compare the physical interface Verify ports, mounting pattern, overall size, center clearance, and hose routing against the machine layout.
- Commission one passage at a time Begin at low pressure and low speed, verify function and leakage, then increase to the intended operating condition.
